Morgan won the male and female categories, respectively, of a 10km race in Suriname yesterday, according to an official of the Rising Stars track club.

Morgan, the four-time Caricom 10km winner, had finished the 2010 road-running season on a sour note after failing to podium in the Suriname leg of the South American 10km. The former Junior and Senior Sportswoman of the Year reportedly regained her stellar form in Suriname yesterday to win the women’s segment of the 10km. Morgan’s last race, prior to her recent victory, was at the Run Barbados 10km international long distance series, where she had managed to medal.

Lionel D’Andrade

D’Andrade had placed second at the Suriname International Marathon late last year. The seasoned long distance campaigner lives and competes in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) all year round, but this publication was unable to confirm whether he will be returning to T&T or competing at the National Cross Country Championships, next weekend in Guyana.

Morgan may definitely be looking to reclaim her title at the local cross country competition, after she dropped out of the race with less than 1000m remaining last year, due to a recurring leg injury. Junior long distance runner Chavez Sital was also said to have competed at the event yesterday.  More details about the race will be featured when the athletes return.
